SRAs aren't rare, they are available on request, though most aircraft these days would probably fly the RNAV approach to the northern runway.
(I did Gatwick approach, in addition to Heathrow, for a number of years. Nowadays I don't 'do' it but do supervise it.)
Thanks, how often are SRAs carried out? I am guessing recurrent training every few months?
Correct there are RNAV approaches, but the DH on the RNAV 8L is I think is 655ft which is not brilliant.
