There are still legitimate unanswered questions about this whole episode.

The CSD of the flight seems to buy into the story.

The captain said he delayed departure to buy more time...if this hadn't have happened, the plane would have left Kuwait by the time the airport was bombed/attacked.

There's something distinctly fishy about the whole thing.

If I had been involved in this, I'd certainly want answers and compensating.
The plane was supposed to have left Kuwaiti airspace before there was any chance of the Iraqi forces reaching the airport. It was bad luck that the APU went tech and the captain didn't decide to re-route given the delay in leaving. The whole thing was just bad timing - no one would have been any the wiser as to the possibility of any special passengers on the plane (if there were any) if there hadn't been a delay in leaving. As it was one small problem (the APU) caused the events that we know happened.

What people often forget is the fact that if a country did send military people into a country that had just been invaded, these people were not sent there for their health and they might just have brought the conflict to a speedier resolution with less loss of life.
