I've been regularly disappointed with this hotel for it failing to offer upgrades, so decided to take a pre-emptive strike for my stay today.

I'm using my one night stays to get to 28 Hilton nights and spending longer stays in Marriotts, so on that basis, I'd booked the Waldorf for my 1 night in London solely because my first choice, the Trafalgar was full and the Waldorf was the closest to where I wanted to be.

Checking my reservation at 2 p.m. today shows that there are exec rooms and suites available for the night, but my reservation has me allocated to a standard queen guest room.

Rather than turn up and have the argument over whether upgraded rooms are available at the desk, I vote with my feet, cancel the reservations and am now in a suite at the Marriott County Hall.

I just wish there was a way to let the hotel know that their continued unwillingness to offer Diamond upgrades was costing them money.
