Before calling in to add your name and SPG details to the reservation presumably given to you, you must be officially a Platinum member. Not Platinum-pending, not after-this-upcoming-stay-Platinum etc...

Huh? Any SPG member can add their number to the reservation for a room in which they will stay. However, they only receive Gold benefits after officially becoming Gold and Plat benefits after officially becoming Plat.
