A regular issue with cabs from in front of the BA terminal at JFK is the "fixed fee" cab fare to Manhattan. Three times now I have been got to within a couple of blocks of destination, which is inconveniently looped around the one-way streets, only to be told with a pointed finger and a sudden release of the trunk "it's down there".
I'm sure whoever came up with the fixed price idea was trying to be helpful to passengers, but the way the NYC cab drivers turn it to their advantage (including suddenly forgetting what little English they know when you insist on being taken to your destination) must come as a surprise to those who don't know the city well.
