The standard Hilton process is to join Hilton Honors, select 'points and fixed miles' and then set BA as your airline on the Hilton website and add your number. The miles then go across automatically. In theory, though, you can do it without the card although you may not get double miles.

I would retroclaim via Diamond Club, it may then work in your favour due to the extra miles.
Good offer at the moment. Yes, join HHonurs, so easy to get miles auto credited to BAEC, just needs two cards, you don't need to transfer. Also, check ba.com for good flight+hotel deals, 1000 extra avios for ET at the moment.
