What about the case where you get gate-checked when you're connecting to a second flight? I think I've only ever gotten the magic scribble on the first boarding pass (although, I don't always have both in hand when going through security at the original airport).
Also, wouldn't having your BP on your cell phone throw a monkey wrench into the whole "hold onto your BP through security" bit?
