Why would BA set an entire UK ad campaign in Sydney in 2007? Why not somewhere more profitable such as New York? Sydney was chosen because it is the furthest BA destination from the UK. Definitively - no. With a very high degree of certainty, yes.
VS went there as another one of SRB's tedious "evil BA monopoly" stunts and pride prevents them withdrawing, otherwise they too would be out like a shot as it is as weak for them as it is for BA.
Not sure one advert 5 years ago makes for a compelling case of it mattering that much. More like it is a destination which suited the mood of the campaign in question rather than some far reaching statement of intent.
