Huh...may be an iPhone/Android difference? To be honest, I've only ever tried it a couple times, and that was about 6 months ago maybe, so the apps may have updated since then. I remember at the time I checked in the PNR on my phone, and then got a screen that said to print at the airport (was domestic out of ATL, so definitely e-BP eligible).
Recently we have to make sure we're on separate devices since I have PreCheck and she doesn't, and I'm the jerk that ditches his wife in the regular line while I waltz through the WTMD (though usually with her bag, so...).

I don't see how it would make a difference. From what I gather, by the time you reach the GA, they just see if someone's checked in or not, doesn't matter which method.
The only times I use the kiosks now is to either check if a better seat opened up or if I need a paper boarding pass for some reason (employer needs it, and one time my phone battery died on the way to the airport).
OP: Glad
tusphotog figured it out for you. One additional point, when I check in on the website and send my BP via text/email (the situation you had), the app will still show the "View eBoarding Pass" button since it knows you're checked in. But when you click it it'll say not available unless you checked in via the app first. Mildly annoying UI "glitch"...
