My understanding is that BA won't cover alcoholic drinks, but AMEX will.
Some hotels anally split out the alcohol (thanks Marriott) on the final bill.
Seemed slightly ironic to me that when we were forced to overland from Salzburg to London, BA paid out in the region of two grand (there were 7 of us) but held back about a tenner for a round of beers we bought with dinner (about £25 worth of pizza is I think all we could get) one night. Had we actually flown straight back it would have been champagne all round at BA's expense.
