It is one - of many - things explicitly prohibited in our travel policy. Nothing to do with gallantry or etiquette I am afraid.

The route is also a "regular" one travelled in the company and my experience I would have > 50% chance of meeting a colleague - possibly a more senior one. Could not defend the indefensible.

As I say - not worth the risk.
