Yup, that would be our SOP.
I too have taken the daytime flight - the food isn't as good as they serve a brunch type meal, and I hate having to get up at 5 am and hightailing it to JFK and if you're already locked into EST its hell getting to sleep in the UK (assuming you've succumbed to a drink induced snooze on the flight).
I prefer taking it easy and eat a meal at JFK pre-boarding and breakfast in Arrivals. The 112 is perhaps a bit early but you do get first dibs at the CCR dinner as the lounge isn't too busy then, but it does get into LHR good and early so you have a full day to enjoy before going to bed. Do try and stay awake for as long as possible when you get home.
The daytime flight was good in the Concorde days (not such an early start

)
