I for one don't like to fly SQ (except for the regional market around SIN) and of course for elites booking code share flights is an absolute no-no.

SQ will still enforce the 3x50lb for *G no matter what the coreshare agreements or the IATA rules say. No employee here ever even contemplates to even verify the rules.
So when UA will have fixed its upgrade system, it is back to UA all the way for me.

There is no "old 44lb limit". Purely intra Europe (sans LH) and intra Asia itineraries have the weight concept which is 20kg total weight.
..4. This cause nightmares at some overseas stations. The best thing to do in that situation is to pay the fee with a USA-issued CC and ask for a refund after your itinerary is complete. Having a fight at some outstations can mean that you and/or your bags simply don't go. If the refund is declined, initiate a chargeback (within 60 days of the service).
You have to sign a charge form. How would you ever be able to dispute that?
