Every year I work at a big conference in Las Vegas and every year I get tired of it and miss my wife, so this year I thought I'd book a stay at the Venetian using points - 40,000 a night for a suite, Friday to Sunday. I was looking forward to it:

Sadly, as so often happens I was called away - needed in San Diego on April 17th.
Fair enough, that's part of the job - I broke the news to my wife, then cancelled the reservation online (an email confirming confirmation of the cancellation was received on April 5th). A flight to San Diego was booked and I started preparing for the task at hand.
Has anyone had this happen? Phantom additional bookings to cross the cancellation deadline and then a credit card charge?
Besides the phantom charge to my corporate card (since my previously booked stay is coming up this weekend), I had the exact same thing happen for a reward booking at the Palazzo. I booked with points and they were deducted, I cancelled and they were replaced, and then I logged into my account a few days later and they had been withdrawn again, even though my reservation remained cancelled.
It took 4 calls to PC to get the points situation straightened out. And, after I read this thread I just called Palazzo directly to confirm they actually had cancelled the reservation so I didn't have any credit card surprises next week!
