You certainly were slimed. But the GA should have called the person who they gave your seat away to, revoked THEIR boarding pass, and restored yours. Lazy, shameful GA.

I guess it's better that you found out before boarding, when the scanner would have gone ding...ding and spit you out last row center as your new seat assignment.
