Posted something similar on the BMI forum, and thought it worth spreading this around as many loyal BA travellers still have a few orphan BMI DC miles knocking about, that they think are worth next to nothing (wrong!). Also as BMI are owned by BA, it could be an appropriate posting for this part of the forum.
OK you'll need to buy a few miles, but at £255 for 24k (much cheaper than BA), and BMIs fantastic cash+miles option in F and J, it can be a real winner compared to a cash economy ticket. Many *A have much lower YQ than BA, and departing ex-UK will save you the APD.
Here's a some examples of reedeming in J through BMI DC on *A;
If you have no miles at all, buy 24k for £255 and you can reedeem 22.5k and £150(cash part)+taxes for TUN-IST-CPT-IST-TUN on TK (A330 flat beds) You can get to TUN for £27+Avios miles. Or swap TUN for CAI and see the Sphinx before heading down to CPT.
If you have 6k orphan miles, top them with another for £255, and you could be doing CPH-SIN-MLE-SIN-CPH in J (with stopover in SIN) for 30k+210(cash)+taxes. Position with Avios to CPH for £27 and 9000 miles return.
Another option is if you have 14k orphan miles, you can top up to 38k for this route CPH-BKK-HKG, return HKT(stop)-BKK-CPH in J for a cash payment of £285+taxes. Or, another example LHR-EZE for the same miles and cash as above
Too many options to mention, and if you have a family account with BMI you can combime your spouses/other family orphan miles into your account, to consolidate (or buy) even more miles.
Be quick though only 8 working days to book before no more BMI redemptions and all orphan miles are transferred/devalued to Avios. No redemptions are allowed on the LH group, but all other *A are OK.
