Delta Pricing Issue: One-Way vs. Multi-City

When I performed a search from AUA-ATL-PIT as a one way ticket on Delta.com, the total price of the ticket came to be $363.20 (economy class, L & U fare code).

I performed another search as a multi-city ticket from AUA-ATL-PIT (same flight numbers, economy class, L fare code) and the total price came out to be $295.20. I was surprised to see that if I booked the same flights as a multi-city itinerary, the price of my same ticket was $68.00 cheaper. I called the Delta Medallion service phone number to inform them of this price difference. They were also able to pull up the $295.20 fare when booking a multi-city itinerary.

Is this common practice? If I did not know to try the multi-city itinerary, I would have lost out of $68.00.
