I've no doubt the "friend" knew exactly what he was doing, but unless he brings himself to the attention of SPG/Amex, I doubt anything will happen.

Of course, any purchase on the card would start eating away at the negative balance.

One question - do SPG supplementary cards have their own "balance" within Amex? I thought he and his wife shared the same balance?
