We were one of the first off the ship and were able to get to the airport early enough to change our flight from the 1:30 one to the 11:45.
That's the best outcome of all.
I concur about eating at the Fairmont if I have time and want a good meal, or at one of the restaurants near the domestic side. I don't eat after security in the US departures area if I can avoid it.
And yes, since departures nearly always use the South runway, it is a long ride from the US terminal to the departure runway. Late night arrivals often land on the south side as well.
