Crazy Cancellation Fees

In March I made 2 reservations for a CountryInns stay in August near Cooperstown. I booked a 6 night stay online through Club Carlson and used points for 3 nights and paid for the other 3 nights. In the booking process there was no callout on anything regarding deposit to my CC or cancellation charges.

My plans to NY are now scuttled, and I want to cancel my room. When I went back to the email confirmation I noticed at the bottom that they want to charge me $45 to cancel the room resulting in a $205 credit of my $250 payment. For the points reservation, they want to charge me 44K points to cancel.

I called the 800# and they were not helpful. Called the local hotel and was told the $45 is an accounting fee that goes to corporate. My bottom line is I would expect to not pay anything in $s or points given it is this far in advance. No legitimate hotel would do this.

The kicker is those cancellation policies are not on the website, just checked again.

Seriously annoyed..
