My question is: can I use my daughter's non-T-Mobile sim card to unlock the phone & then put my T-Mobile sim card back in? Then when we get to Ireland I'll buy a sim card and slap it in.
Yes, you most certainly can do that. IIRC Motorola unlocks have two kinds of unlocking procedures. The simpler one is to just insert a foreign SIM and the phone will just ask you for the unlock code. The other way can be done but is more involved.
