It really was funny as they kept asking me for some proof that I'm not a Jr. to justify taking Jr. off - but I am a Jr. so I have nothing to show them without it except my Alaska FF card and a bunch of credit cards with just my first and last name, no middle initial or Jr.!!
We live in a society where nobody is given any discretion to do the obvious so it forces us to spend time and be insistent...........
The problem is that a father and son having the same name can fairly easily game the system by sharing one FF number. Let's say dad's a frequent flyer with elite status, so dad shares his FF account number with Jr. so that Jr. can get his father's benefits. So it's not too surprising that airlines are somewhat suspicious in name mismatches involving Jr.'s.
