I suspect the only seats left are ones that are normally reserved for elite members; Economy Plus and/or exit rows. What will most likely happen is UA will give you seat assignments at the airport in this section. There should be no charge for sitting in the elite section in this case.

I would advise trying to get to the airport a little early.
