Yep... at least the OLCI lets you select E+ seats initially during check-in. Just checked in last night, I'm silver, companion is GM. Able to get us both on the upgrade list (though that's a waste now anyway) by splitting the PNR, and also able to get us both E+ seats. But when I go in now and look at my companion's seat, if I want to pick a different E+ seat, it wants to charge her. Not a problem this time, but if there were no E+ seats at check-in and then some opened up later due to others getting upgrades, it would be annoying and require a phone call.
It does still seem to let me choose up to 2 checked bags free (UA Club card) on her PNR, though.
