I'm glad it changed... if your "companion" were really a companion they would be on the same PNR. Fact is that too many sitting in E+ "borrowing" status... just because your co-workers or friend travels with you does not mean that UAL shouldbe required to give them the same status.
In the past, I've advocated for co-workers and friends to travel on United on the same flight as me, promising them E+ if they do. Isn't this GOOD for United, as it draws some pax away from the competition?
