Dropping Honors... Who should I replace with?

These rats have been jerking me around for years now.
Most recently, I had a reservation at BWI airport Hampton. I arrived past midnight and was told that the room I requested (King Non-Smoke) was unavailable and I was now in a double accessible room. I explained that I had reserved the room a few days ago with cc on file and was told by the agent that "just because you reserve a particular room doesn't mean you will receive that room".
I called the Diamond line to complain, and received an email stating that after some investigation, for my stay at the HGI at Virginia Beach I received the room I requested. I replied with an email stating that this was not the hotel I had the problem with, and someone should do a better ob of investigating. Haven't heard anything in about a month.
I can go on. Every time I use points, I get the worst rooms on the property. I ask to change rooms and meet resistance.
I joined in 2001 and have maintained Diamond since 2003. It's a shame, because I have stayed at many great properties and have a lot of favorites that I would stay repeatedly. I just can't stand it anymore.
I maintain Platinum Royal Ambassador with IHG and rarely encounter any problems. When I do, I get resolution promptly.
I keep IHG for my first choice of hotel. Is Marriot any good? I have Starwood, but haven't used them in years. Any suggestions?
