Seems an unreasonable condition to me. Say you have a BAPP card, get your 2-4-1, book your remdemption tick for a flight 10 months away, and then make a decision in the intevening 10 months that you no longer need an amex card, particularly if your renewal date approaches and you can not justify the £150 fee.
It would be incredibly harsh to be denied boarding in the above scenario, and likely not tenable.
