Based on the reports here the automatic seat assignments will try to preserve your preference, i.e. if you had an aisle seat it will try to keep you in the aisle seat but in terms of rows it is completely random. Therefore, keep a close eye on the reservation and as soon as you see the map back again go and select the seat you'd like to sit in.
