This used to be a common occurrence in days of yore when it was common to see ones luggage being taken to the aircraft on the back of an open trolley while it was pouring from the heavens.

If you have cheap luggage like me which isn't waterproof it's best to pack the contents in a large bin liner first.....especially when one is travelling in the tropics and airports in Scotland.
