I think this is an important point to bear in mind. In the DSK case, no one (including DSK himself) ever denied that sexual contact took place between him and the room maid; the question was whether, or to what extent, that contact was consensual.

To be honest, I'm not normally in my hotel room when it's serviced. If I am, and I'm not busy working, I often go for a walk while the maid does the room, not because of any fears about being in the room with her, but because it's generally easier for her if the guest is not in the room, and I don't really need to watch someone replace the towels etc.

In my experience, the room maid normally leaves the door of the room open when she's in it, whether the guest is in the room or not, and this seems to me to be sensible practice (and doesn't date from the past year or so). The only drawback to this that I can see is whether, in certain situations, it would allow a sneak-thief into a room that is being serviced (e.g. when the maid is using a vacuum cleaner, or when she steps out of the room to get something from her trolley, finds it isn't there and goes to the supply room, etc).
