Oh, I agree with others who've said they would prefer it if hotel personnel didn't go through their luggage; even if it's with the most benign intent. I would think that the hotel would make this verboten, just to avoid accusations of theft, breakage, etc.

It's not a matter of being "unnerved" or not being aware that such things are done. Doesn't matter whether I'm staying at an exclusive, private resort or some local dive, I am not so infirm that I cannot unpack my bag(s) and I simply do not want anyone else going through my belongings. If I want something laundered. a suit pressed or a shirt ironed, I will let housekeeping know.
