Recent one-night stay at the Westin Madrid. The hotel was totally sold out for the Barcelona-Madrid football match, so they were unable to upgrade me to a suite. The clerk apologized profusely, added a 1,000 point courtesy bonus to my account, and sent a full bottle of red wine plus a fruit plate to the room.
I was traveling solo and the room was plenty large enough. I'm a "Plat-minus" in the new system - someone who makes it on stays, not nights. They didn't really owe me a suite at all, so I thought their actions exceeded my expectations. ^
