2 people get on, man and woman. say row 22. she sits on window seat, him in middle. I think to self, ok thats a little weird, A group...but then the guy starts violently pushing back and forth saying "this chair is broken, this chair is broken" then moves to aisle, calls flight attendant, to tell her its broken. (no way it was broken). flight attendant comes over and puts "out of order sign on seat..............cripes
If I were the FA, I'd offer to call maintenance and hold the departure. I'd say that it's likely to require a 45-minute delay to replace the "chair".
Either that or tell them that they have to leave that row empty if they don't want to incur a delay. Then when someone else sits in the row ask that person if the seat is broken or not and act surprised when "it seems to have fixed itself!"
