If I were the FA, I'd offer to call maintenance and hold the departure. I'd say that it's likely to require a 45-minute delay to replace the "chair".

Either that or tell them that they have to leave that row empty if they don't want to incur a delay. Then when someone else sits in the row ask that person if the seat is broken or not and act surprised when "it seems to have fixed itself!"
