Over the years, you get to know the weather/climate in different places. DFW in May (and April in a mild year like this) can be t-storm/tornado alley. Chicago in August has perpetual afternoon thunderstorms (I have a colleague who was stranded overnight EVERYTIME he went to Chicago for 3 years). Avoid if you can; be prepared if you can't.
