The game isn't about extracting a few more dollars from the small number of elites that they are already getting a sizeable spend from. It's about getting GMs to fork over an extra $100-$200 per round trip which will far more significantly increase revenue for them.

Right now it's "just" selling TOD to F. I think we'll soon see similar patterns emerge.

In their mind, as an elite, you have qualified/reported yourself as someone who is either stupid enough to deal with them, that is required to fly them, or for whom network is more important than how to get where you need to go. In any of these scenarios, there's no reason for them to "thank" you. They'll get your money no matter what.

What'll be interesting is whether the outflow of elites and the revenue tied to that will outweigh the inflow of revenue generated by TODs. I personally think yes, but let's wait and see. In the meantime, I will make sure to not give UA a single dime for my corporate travel, and corporate travel I have input on, and any paid family travel.
