I've always just used Skype to call the US number when in the UAE. If you don't already have it on your PC / phone you'll need a VPN to download it though.

By the way - the UA website is now showing partner PNRs for me when I view a reservation; there's a link at the top of the "view reservation page". This is a recent addition.
