I've been accumulating points through Amex for several years and have decided to redeem the points this year to go to Vietnam. I was planning to use my Amex Membership Rewards points to fly from JFK to SGN. I've been a KrisFlyer account member for a couple of years from a flight that I booked a while back. I checked the singaporeair.com website and it looks like it will cost about 63750 miles for this trip.

On the website, I noticed that to attain KrisFlyer Elite Gold status you need only 50,000miles. I was wondering if I transfer the points from Amex to Singapore, will I automatically attain that status or is that only attained by purchasing flights and not through reward miles?
