Actually, it happens all the time at virtually every hub in the country. Just try to book a short trip to someplace other than FLA from MEM, CVG, MSP, SLC, CLE, EWR, IAH, CLT, MIA, DFW and even PHL and you'll find the same sky high ticket prices. Poor UA may have been the only airline in the past 10 years that didn't have much pricing power out of its own hubs.
