Based on what I have read, his view of "mistakes" includes not posting miles fast enough, but I've seen no indication that he considers the complete demolition of the 1K and GS programs or the myriad of general service cuts to be a mistake. It'd be hard for me to believe that he wasn't behind all of it.

Yes, that's right. It's a differentiator that allows him to screw his most loyal customers and play statistical revenue maximization games with everyone else. In this case, the differentiation serves only to line his pockets with more bonuses from short term and short sighted nonsense that will (and is) in the longer term forcing his most loyal customers to find ways to minimize UA travel or eliminate it all together.
