The reason the website is confusing is: On earning AA miles for CX codeshares AA.com states that AA flight numbers earn according to the AA chart. No such wording is noted on the JAL section. Thanks for the clarification.
One thing to note when booking an N fare on an AA Codeshare with JAL is that you will not be able to select your seats for the JAL segment. I have a ticket to BKK later this year in N and neither JAL or AA can see the seat map. There is a thread somewhere else on this same topic. Status won't help in this case, you will have to wait until checkin, sometimes even waiting until landing in NRT (I've booked N a few times and haven't learned my lesson yet). If seating is important to you on JAL, call and have AA reprice into another bucket. Haven't had any issues outside of N.
