There are many other "human factors" that should be taken into consideration when designing things that will be used by a human being. Red is the brightest in daylight. Yellow is the color we see farthest out in our peripheral vision, quantitative vs qualitative displays, etc. So using blue light appears to be yet another example of "this looks cool" winning over the best scientific solution that would be less appealing to most people. The trade off is aesthetic vs good sleep.
I'd rather not have a red light as red is the colour that we most associate with danger (apparently) so another colour light is possibly chosen with that in mind.
