You can, however, get a pre-arranged visa. This company calls it "Visa on arrival". The fee isn't that much more expensive than the cost of two FedEx shipments to the US Embassy, and you can send a scanned copy of your passport.

In any case, I am not anxious to mail my passport anywhere. What if I need to flee the country in the next 10 days? NEXUS will only get me so far...

Worst case, I will get a visa from the Myanmar embassy in BKK, SIN, or HKG.
