It was a great time to be a kid into aviation. The gates were accessible and it used to be possible to get tours of planes on the ground if you asked nicely, which was nice if you didn't do a lot of long-haul flying but wanted to see inside the widebodies. I remember DTW back in those years well; I flew out of there quite a few times in those years and remember when what became the old NW terminal was actually United's. Good memories of a better time for commercial aviation.
