Thanks for the info. I think most Europeans are used to walking, so a 10 minute walk may not seem like a long walk. However friends of mine from So Cal tell me stories of people driving to go to a store only a block away, so I guess it all depends.

I may just ask the hotel shuttle driver if he wouldn't mind driving me over to the rental car place if the weather is not condusive to walking.
