I only remember it because there was an accident when a helicopter fell off and some people were killed. The Helipad closed soon afterwards. The point being that you could fly from JFK directly into Mid-Town.
It didn't fall off the roof but it toppled over after landing and the rotor went free killing a group of passengers who had just disembarked and falling to the street where it killed a pedestrian. I actually knew someone on that helicopter flight but he was in such a rush to get to a meeting that he had run straight for the door as soon as they landed and was safely inside the building when the accident happened.
