Graphic violence is something that will hopefully not be seen in public.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't watch a film with graphic violence on an aircraft, just that an activity's legality in public would factor into the decision.
To my earlier point, for many it isn't something that is routinely seen. I live in a very diverse community, but I certainly didn't grow up in one, and I knew the atrocities of genocide before I knew about gay sex.
Graphic violence is seen all over the place, not 'live' but on any television set carrying any number of news channels in public.
And, if we are talking about legalities, there are places where homosexuality isn't legal, so should that factor into the decision on what is appropriate to watch?
