This is because any change would require re-issuance of ticket and this can not be done anymore for itiniraries that include LH group segnents
You can cancel the whole itinirary and book the new one - but there is no guarantee that award seats from your previous itinirary will ge back into award pool, so plan accordingly.

That is incorrect. I changed last week tickets that contained LH segments and this was done without problem and the tickets reissued.
The ticket was LH-TG-TG where I changed the last segment to a different TG flight within the same zone.
Ditto for a TG-TG-SN flight where I changed the first segment.
The OP should therefore be OK with the contemplated change.
