Question Duty Free on flights on Mex / Cbn, Why not?

I have taken MANY intra Europe and Asia flights on LH, MH, LX, PR, etc. they operate 737's and 320's just like UA does to Mexico and the Carribean. On those intra - Europe and Asia flights on board duty free is very successful, especially alcohol and CIgerettes. With all the hair brained ideas UA has come up with to squeeze every penny out of us, I wonder why they don't offer at least a watered down version of in flight duty free on these short international flights? Is there some law prohibiting it? It can't be a space issue as many foreign carriers do it AND STILL SERVE HOT MEALS on these narrow body main line jets.
