There's not necessarily a saving; this all depends on where one is based. For someone based in Woolwich, then the avoidance of the travel to LHR would be worth it. But when starting from "London" theres just as good a chance of LHR being closer or both being a similar distance

Unless based where LCY is a much more conveniant airport to get to , then I can't see the real benefit of the longer journey
