When the reservation is changed to Z, you will be able to select the upgraded seats immediately.

Ask/Try to get the Manila ticket office to go ahead and actually REISSUE your tickets into the upgraded class. This locks your upgrade(s) in and you will be check in ready at the airport. You can tell your ticket has been reissued when you click on the "receipt details" and see that it is in Z.
